Bumper assembly fixture

We were given a design concept for a framework to hold an assembly fixture, the fixture has a hinged top that must be able to open and be supported.

Project specification

Support the top at approx. 55 degrees when open.
As close to the floor as possible for working height.
Manoeuvrable.
Apertures for forklift legs to lift fixture.
Frame, to support open top, must be removable and height adjustable.
Paint red to customer specification.

Work Outcome

The whole framework will be constructed from 50mm x 50mm steel box section. There will be 6 off plates set in to allow for 6 medium duty casters, of which the outside 4 will be lockable. The front edge of the framework will be staggered up in two positions to give clearance for forklift legs.

This will allow the placement and removal of the fixture to the frame. A separate frame work with an angled top will support the top of the fixture when it’s in the open position. This will be attached to the main frame via two legs which are detachable to allow ease of movement of the framework between workstations.

The height of the small frame will be set on adjustable feet to allow the fixture to open to approximately 55 degrees from the floor.
